5-day slice of kadavu

The Slice of Kadavu is a relaxed, adventurous journey through an unspoiled, remote South Pacific island environment.

In addition to Kadavu's world-class sea-kayaking, the expedition includes plenty of time for snorkeling the coral reefs, trekking to waterfalls within the rain-forest, and enjoying picnics and siestas on deserted beaches. On one of the days we'll visit a small Fijian village for lunch. Scuba-diving can also be included.

We overnight in two small resorts: Waisalima and Matava. No camping!

5-day 'Slice of Kadavu' itinerary
Day 1:
The expedition begins with the guides meeting the guests on their arrival at Kadavu Airport, (or after lunch at local resorts for those already in Kadavu Island).

Getting to Kadavu Island:  Once each day there is a non-stop flight from Fiji’s Nadi International Airport to Kadavu Island, operated by Pacific Sun. This is scheduled to depart Nadi at 12.40pm and arrive into Kadavu at 1.25pm. Other flight options are also available, but are not non-stop. Clients are responsible for booking their own air travel to and from Kadavu Island. This can be done on-line at: www.pacificsun.com.fj

From Kadavu’s tiny airport there’s a short walk to a nearby beach, followed by a 90-minute scenic boat ride along Kadavu's coastline to Waisalima Beach Resort.Time for a sea-kayaking refresher course, and a swim or snorkel off the beach.

Day 2:  After breakfast we sea-kayak along the coast, stopping to swim and snorkel in a sheltered cove, before arriving at a lovely beach for a picnic lunch. From there we paddle into the mangroves at the head of Kavala Bay, where we leave our sea-kayaks and trek into the rainforest for a refreshing swim under a towering waterfall, before returning to Waisalima Beach Resort by motorboat for another night.

Day 3:  A big day of sea-kayaking: around the coastline, past many small islands, beaches and bays, with the Great Astrolabe Reef on our left, and the rugged hills of Kadavu on our right. There's time for snorkeling, and stops on beaches for picnics and refreshments, before we arrive at Matava Resort.

Day 4:  We'll start the day with a snorkeling session in the incredible Waya Island marine reserve, then we'll kayak across a series of turquoise lagoons where turtles are often seen. Eventually we'll arrive at a small traditional Fijian village where we'll have lunch and rest a little. From there we'll follow a trail through the forest to a spectacular waterfall and swimming area. Back to Matava by motorboat for a special last-evening dinner and a well-earned sleep.

Day 5:  More sea-kayaking, snorkeling and trekking for those still keen, otherwise a restful morning at Matava Resort. The expedition ends with the 1-hour scenic boat-ride to Kadavu Airport for those flying out, or to other resorts for those staying longer in Kadavu Island.

Flying out from Kadavu Island:  Once each day there is a non-stop flight from Kadavu Airport to Fiji’s Nadi International Airport, operated by Pacific Sun. This is scheduled to depart Kadavu at 1.45pm and arrive into Nadi at 2.30pm. Other flight options are also available, but are not non-stop. Clients are responsible for booking their own air travel to and from Kadavu Island. This can be done on-line at: www.pacificsun.com.fj
