7-day kadavu classic

First guided in 1998, the Kadavu Classic expedition has been tried and tested, refined and fine-tuned, to become what many guests have described as the best holiday of their lives.

Over seven days our experienced guides will lead you safely through some of the most beautiful places in Kadavu Island's unspoiled coral reef and rainfoirest environment.

You'll enjoy as much sea-kayaking, snorkeling, trekking and swimming as you're looking for, with motorboat support available whenever needed. Scuba-diving can also be arranged with local PADI-certified operators.

We overnight in small, environmentally-friendly resorts with one night as guests in a local village.

Each night you’ll have your own private room, with comfortable beds, clean sheets and ocean views. No camping!

Kadavu Classic itinerary

Day 1:
The expedition begins with the guides meeting the guests on their arrival at Kadavu Airport, (or after lunch at local resorts for those already in Kadavu Island).

Getting to Kadavu Island: Once each day there is a non-stop flight from Fiji’s Nadi International Airport to Kadavu Island, operated by Pacific Sun. This is scheduled to depart Nadi at 12.40pm and arrive into Kadavu at 1.25pm. Other flight options are also available, but are not non-stop. Clients are responsible for booking their own air travel to and from Kadavu Island. This can be done on-line at: www.pacificsun.com.fj

From Kadavu’s tiny airport there’s a short walk to a nearby beach, followed by a 90-minute scenic boat ride along Kadavu's coastline to Waisalima Beach Resort.

Day 2: An introductory sea-kayaking lesson for those that need it, followed by a full day-trip: a sea-kayak journey along the coast and up into a mangrove forest; a beach picnic and snorkeling stop along the way; finishing with a trek to a towering waterfall for a refreshing swim. Return to Waisalima Beach Resort by motor boat.

Day 3: After breakfast the group will cross the channel to Ono Island by sea-kayak (or motor boat), then spend the day paddling, snorkeling, beach-combing and picnic-ing along the area’s sparsely-populated coastline. Return to Waisalima Beach Resort by motor boat.

Day 4: 3-4 hours sea-kayaking along the island’s most remote coastline, through reef passages, across lagoons and past small islands, from Waisalima Beach Resort to Vacalea village, with a guided snorkeling trip to the Great Astrolabe Reef en-route. Another beach picnic.

Day 5: The morning can be spent taking time to experience more of the villagers’ way-of-life, with the chance to learn traditional weaving, or to visit the local primary school. Other options include trekking to view gardens and birdlife in the forest, or sea kayaking and snorkeling out along the barrier reef. Your guides will give you the options.

From Vacalea village after lunch 2-3 hours sea-kayaking brings you to Matava Resort.

Day 6: The day starts with time to snorkel amongst the amazing coral off tiny Waya Island. From there we'll paddle 2 hours to a nearby village for a lunch, rest a little, then trek along a trail through the rainforest to a spectacular waterfall and swimming area. Back to Matava Resort by sea-kayak or motor-boat, and a final evening in Kadavu.

Day 7: More sea-kayaking, snorkeling and trekking for those still keen, otherwise a restful morning at Matava Resort. The expedition ends with the 1-hour scenic boat-ride to Kadavu Airport for those flying out, or to other resorts for those staying longer in Kadavu Island.

Flying out from Kadavu Island:  Once each day there is a non-stop flight from Kadavu Airport to Fiji’s Nadi International Airport, operated by Pacific Sun. This is scheduled to depart Kadavu at 1.45pm and arrive into Nadi at 2.30pm. Other flight options are also available, but are not non-stop. Clients are responsible for booking their own air travel to and from Kadavu Island. This can be done on-line at: www.pacificsun.com.fj
